Electric Dryer

Not your grandma’s machine! New types - a ventless heat pump dryer, condensing dryer, or combo washer/condensing dryer – offer new advantages. Many ventless dryers use a standard 15A, 120 volt outlet: no electrical upgrades needed!

Tax credit: None for dryer.

Cost: from $320 (old-style vented), $700 (condensing), $1000 (heat pump), $1200 (washer/dryer combo). Purchase prices do not tell the whole story on affordability; efficiency reduces running costs.

Rebates: 50% or 100% up to $840 for a heat pump dryer. (Possible rebates for electrical upgrades.)

Do now: If a new 240-volt outlet is needed, get recommendations for electricians.
