Save energy and money

Why Electrify?

When a gas-powered furnace, HVAC, car, water heater, stove or dryer nears the end of its useful life, getting an efficient electric replacement can save money, save energy, and reduce health risks. Financial incentives can make this much easier.  We give you the information you need to make the switch, and because we are a nonprofit organization, our recommendations are unbiased by market motives.

Why think about this now?

When an essential household appliance breaks down, the pressure’s on to replace it – fast! There’s little time to research the best buy. Maybe you’ll need an electrical upgrade to get the features you want. Your contractor may want to replace with the same-old unit as before. Or you could save on future bills by sealing energy leaks first. Figuring all that out in advance will save you time and money – when you need to act.

Be prepared

Before trouble hits:  Identify what appliances may need replacement, what switching looks like and what tax credits and rebates are available to offset the costs of the replacement. Figure out what electrical upgrades you’ll need, if any. Lock into lower future bills by sealing and insulating. Know your home’s heating load so you’ll get the right equipment.

When the time comes: How we can help

The electrification space is new and information about local Indiana resources can be hard to find. We’ve got you. Factsheets for each appliance or vehicle type contain detailed action plans so that when the time comes to make a switch, you will be ready to talk to a contractor.

“Forty-two percent of U.S. energy-related emissions come from our homes and the machines we use every day: the cars we drive, how we heat and cool our homes, how we heat our water, dry our clothes, and cook our meals. We stand no chance of staying inside of 1.5°C warming unless we electrify our lives.”
